Grace Counted Today
Just a couple minutes ago Grace was walking around with a calculator and she walked up to me and said, "Watch". And then she pushed buttons on the calculator and said, "3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8". I didn't know she could count! She wasn't pushing the correct number buttons as she counted but still, I didn't know she could say the numbers - and in order too! It's so funny when kids surprise you like that.

She's Getting So Big
Grace is getting so big. I don't know what to do! I love the age she is right now, but I want her to stay. Stop growing. And it makes me long for Ryan to be little again too. I just think age 2 to 3 is so fun. The kids are so cuddly, and funny, and pushing for independence, and learning to communicate more and more each day, but you can still hold them in your arms like bundles. Grace can wrap her little arms and legs around me and she feels like the perfect size. As a parent, it's awesome to see your kids in each stage as they grow but there is definitely something to be said about letting them be little. Enjoy it while it's there and in front of you because it goes so fast.

LEGOS

Ryan is into LEGOS now. He got a couple sets for Christmas and he was so excited. I have to say, although I'm still trying to figure out what to do with all the little pieces (they are in Ziploc bags right now), I have fun putting the sets together with him because it's one of "his" things that I enjoy (unlike sword fighting and playing with Star Wars figurines) and it feels like we accomplished something. That is, until he takes the finished product apart and wants to do it again. Then I tell him he's on his own. Once is good for me. Recently, one of his Star Wars Lego ships kind of broke apart, and he wanted to put it back together, and he wanted me to help him, but I told him to try on his own, so he took all the pieces and started to try, but it was hard to do. So he decided to make his own ship. When he was done, he brought it over to me and explained all the parts that made up his ship. He showed me the guns, and the gears (he actually used that word - which made me laugh), and the seat where the guy can sit, and more guns (big ones and little ones), etc. It was so fun to see his imagination at work, and I took a picture to capture a memory of his creation.

Lincoln Logs

Ryan has had a Lincoln Log set for quite awhile (a gift from his uncle Kurt and aunt Ann), but I've never really seen him build much without our help... until recently. On this day, he decided he wanted to build the picture that is on the box. So he dumped all the logs out, opened the instructions, and went to work. I think I was busy cleaning and getting things done around the house, but I would pop in to see how he was doing from time to time. A couple times he asked me how many little logs he needed for the next step, but that was about it. Later he called me into the room to see his accomplishment. He had built the whole thing and it looked pretty much just like the picture on the box. I was impressed! He pushed the buildings together when he was done with each of them, and he set up the guys and the other props too. I think he felt proud of what he'd done. It's fun to see your kids get excited when they do something new.

Knuckle Kisses
We got home late last night, and before putting the kids to bed we all cuddled together in our bed (mom & dad's bed) so we could talk and be close. While we were hanging out, Ryan said "I invented a new kiss. It's called a knuckle kiss. Do you want to know how it goes?" So we said, "Yes". And he showed us. Here are the instructions, in case any of you want to try it. Haha. :)
1. First, make a fist and kiss your knuckles.
2. Then, put your knuckles somewhere on the body of the person you want to kiss (like their arm, or their cheek, etc.). This must be done gently.
3. Lastly, say "boop" as you gently touch that other person.
That's it. Kiss your knuckles, put it on someone else, and say "boop". Now you should all try it. :)

Drinking Words
Just a quick note while it's on my mind. When Ryan was little he called water "ello". And now that Grace is talking more she calls milk "mop". Ello and Mop. Funny little things.

Yes! We discovered recently that Gracie likes those little grape tomatoes. I get excited when my kids like healthy stuff. She gobbled them up the other night at dinner, and today she kept asking for more before I even had lunch on the table.

Date With Sella

Ryan and Grace came walking out of our bedroom today wearing some of Scott's hats. Ryan said that they're going on a date, and Grace's name is "Sella". I thought maybe he meant "Stella", but nope, it's "Sella". They got on the couch and Ryan told me I had to fly them to the beach for their date. Once they got there they jumped in the pool and splashed around in the water. What an imagination he has! It's fun to see.

Grace took off her outfit yesterday, on her own, because she thought it was dirty from lunch. Then she wanted to try on my winter boots and walk around. So silly. :)

Ryan got some hand-me-down pajamas from his cousin Mark. They're huge on him right now, but he doesn't care. He wants to wear them, even if the pants fall off when he walks. He looks up to his cousin Mark, and Ryan will wear anything if I tell him it used to be Mark's.

Vikings Game Day

Unfortunately we witnessed the Vikings' heartbreaking loss to the Saints, but it's still fun to get together with our family for game day. I think Grace and Ryan are cute little Vikings fans.

Grace walked up to me one day wearing her Dad's hat and gloves. I thought she looked so funny and I asked her to smile for a picture. Here she is with her classic picture face (teethy smile with squinty eyes). What a goof.

Family Movie Night

A couple months ago Scott and I declared a "family movie night". We rented UP! and we all got comfy with blankets, pillows, and popcorn. It was a good movie by the way. Ever since then Ryan will periodically ask if we can have a family movie night. On January 16th Scott was gone, but I agreed to Ryan's request and we rented Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian. Good movie, fun times.
Girls Weekend

My friends and I (Kris, Carrie, Julie, and me) decided to have a Girls Weekend away. All 4 of us were roommates in college at UMD and since Julie lives a few hours away we don't get to see her very often. She suggested we get together at the casino in Hinckley and the rest of us jumped at the idea. I shouldn't call it a girls "weekend" since we only got away for one day/evening but close enough. Kris, Carrie, and I headed up north Saturday afternoon with a couple stops along the way for food and refreshments -- Big Daddy's Bar & Grill in Harris and Chubby's in Pine City. We met Julie at the casino and went from there. First, talking and catching up in the hotel room and a game of Imaginiff. Next, a little gambling - Carrie and Julie were the lucky ones tonight. I think Kris and I were jealous. Then, some drinks in the casino bar while we listened to the country band. After that we headed out... to a bar down the road where we played pool, listened to some good music, talked, and had a good time. We ended the night with a game of euchre (which brings us back to our college days) in our hotel room and then it was sleepy time. It was a fun night. I wish it could've lasted longer. Hopefully this will be an annual event for us.

Christmas Day 2009
Christmas morning was fun this year! Ryan is at the age where he gets really excited to see what Santa left for him. Grace had fun too. After opening presents and hanging out for awhile, we spent Christmas Day with the Hackett family. I wish I had taken more pictures!
Ryan is really into LEGO sets now. That was the top thing on his list this year.
Scott got a new suitcase.

Christmas Eve 2009
We spent Christmas Eve 2009 at my parents house. It had snowed a lot the day/night before so on the drive up there we took it easy because of the weather.
Before arriving at my parents we made one stop to see my grandma (Charlotte / Grandma T.). She was recovering from pneumonia and didn't feel up to traveling with us, so we wanted to visit her. I'm glad we got to spend some time with her. She said it was her first time spending Christmas Eve all alone.
Grace didn't want to cooperate in the pictures we took (she kept closing her eyes on purpose).
When we finally arrived at my parent's house, we all had a good time hanging out together.
