My Friend Jen Had a Baby

April 5, 2009
My friend Jen had her first baby this past April. I, along with our friend Ang, went to visit her at North Memorial Hospital on April 5th. She and Andy named their baby Nolan. Isn't that a cute name? His hair was so dark and silky soft.

Ready To Go

April 5, 2009
I was in the bathroom doing my hair this morning and I could hear Grace around the corner pulling the velcro on her shoes. I knew she was trying to put them on. She knew we were leaving the house soon and before I even went into the bathroom to get ready she was gesturing towards her coat and shoes. She wanted to go! But I told her we had to wait until mommy was ready. So anyway, back to my story. I was in the bathroom getting ready and I heard her trying to put her shoes on. Then she comes walking (on her knees) around the corner and she has this hat on! And then she lifts up her arms, with the shoes in her hand, because she wanted me to put them on. She did not want to wait any longer. I think it's so funny that she put this hat on by herself. What a character. Another funny story is that when we actually were ready to go, I grabbed her pink winter coat and she was not happy with that. She squealed like she was mad and then pointed up towards her purple coat hanging in the closet. So I got her purple coat, put it on her, and then she was happy. How can an 18-month old care about what coat she wears??? So funny!

"I Gotta Wear Shades"

April 5, 2009
Miss Grace and her new baby stroller. It was her Easter present, but she found it early and insisted I assemble it for her.

By the way, the sun was really coming in through the windows this afternoon and hitting her square in the eyes, so I gave her some sunglasses. She pretty much wore them for the entire next hour.
If you look close you'll see pizza sauce on her upper lip. Num nums (that's what she calls food). And num nums is probably the word she says most often.

Homemade Popsicles

March 29, 2009
On this day I made homemade popsicles for the kids. Just yogurt spooned into an ice cube tray with pretzel sticks for handles.

This is Ryan showing them off. Unfortunately, those pretzel sticks did not hold up for long and Ryan had a meltdown over it. You'll see that picture later.

This is Ryan's meltdown (see picture below) because the pretzel sticks broke off his popsicles. I told him it was my fault for not using stronger, thicker pretzel sticks but he couldn't get over it. I tried to teach him a good life lesson... that things don't always go the way we want them to and we need to roll with the punches... by not giving him more unbroken popsicles. Hopefully the lesson will sink in. Poor little guy. He's still learning to fight through those urges to throw a tantrum. He eventually calmed down enough (after about 10 minutes) to eat a few bites with a fork, but that was it. Even though it tasted good to him, he didn't want any more. Next time I'm using good ol' popsicles molds. I found some really cute, multi-colored ones at Target for like 3 bucks. No more meltdowns (I hope). :)

Grace Freshens Up

March 25, 2009
Grace was so cute on this day as she sat in our bathroom (on "her" stool) and played with my makeup, lotion, and other random bathroom things.

Ryan Turns Four

Ryan turned 4 on March 25th and we celebrated his birthday with both sides of the family on March 21st. He had a Spiderman themed party and got lots of cool gifts... Better Batter Baseball (he was so excited about that), a Leapster, a Star Wars scooter and so much more (thanks everyone for making his day). I can't believe he's 4!! In the next super fast 4 years, he'll be 8. And the next super fast 4 years after that, he'll be 12. And what am I going to do, in the next super fast 4 years after that, he'll be 16. I know these years are going to fly by, which makes me want to hang on to everything I can about his stages and phases. Even though he tests us sometimes, he's still innocent and such a sweetheart and I always want to remember it.

Catch Up: March - May 2009

Sorry I haven't posted on here in 2 months! I need to catch up, so the next several posts (which I'll probably get done over the next few days) will contain a run-down of what has happened from late March until now, end of May 2009.
